It all began because we were completely fed up with the rat race – mortgage, bills, school runs, work, repeat. So, in mid 2016, we sold the house and gave away the majority of our belongings in order to escape convention and live on the road for a few great years.
When I say ‘we,’ our travel crew initially started out as four. But, there came a point along the way where it was time for me to separate from my partner. You can read all about breaking up while travelling to find out more about what happened there.
Our travel set up was a 2005 Nissan Patrol 4.8L towing a 2015 Jayco Starcraft Outback (23 ft). Click on the images below to see the full set-ups with all info, inclusions and mods.
I’m not going to lead you to the false illusion that deciding to pack up and travel full-time was a quick, overnight process. It certainly wasn’t. That moment of handing over the house keys and driving away from it all was the result of over two years worth of dedicated planning and preparations.
Have you ever thought to yourself…
“There’s got to be more to life than this!”
“I wish I had more time for the things I love.”
“When I retire, then I’ll travel.”
“I wish I’d explored more when I was younger.”
“What’s the point to all of these bills and responsibilities?”
“I’d love to be doing what I want to do, rather than what I have to do.”
“I can’t afford to travel.”
You’re not alone. In fact that’s the general consensus for most people. But you know what… it doesn’t have to be. Over the past 5 years I’ve helped millions of people find their own freedom (which looks uniquely different for everyone) with my tips, advice, camp reviews, guides, checklists, itineraries, budget calculators, gear reviews and hacks.
These days it’s just myself and my two teenagers. Although we don’t live on the road full-time any more, we are still so free. I’ve fully experienced what it’s like to feel shackled, in more ways than one.
With all of those past experiences under my belt, I have more clarity than ever on what I do and don’t want my life to look like. From there, you know what to allow into your life and what not to. Life isn’t something that happens to us. We make it happen all on our own.
So, with that thought, how do you want your life to look? I’m no life coach, but I am passionate about freedom and travel. So, if exploring Australia is something that you’re into as well, you’ve landed in the right place.

What You’ll Find Here
If you’ve ever dreamed of hitting the road for an Aussie Road Trip, travelling for less or escaping the mundane, you’re in the right place. This website will give you hints, tips, guides and info that will get you on the road sooner.
I don’t come from a high income career, trust funds, inheritance or lotto wins. In fact we were a single-income family for a long time before hitting the road, as my main focus was always on raising my young children.
These days I’m a single mum actually getting paid to do what I love the most! Putting together information, guides, reviews and itineraries on all things caravanning, camping and road tripping Australia.
As cliche as it sounds, if I could manage to hit the road, anyone can! I really mean that. It’s all about making a plan that suits your circumstances and working every single day towards achieving it.
On this website you’ll find:
- Inspo and info to help you in the pre-travel planning stages
- All the info you need for getting yourself set up
- Tips and hacks around camping gear & accessories
- Money & budget information, including set-up costs and on-road financials
- How to’s and tips for caravan maintenance, cleaning & storage
- Tips & hacks for camping
- Checklists, spreadsheets & planners
- Full catalogue of camps, guides & itineraries
What makes this different to other Travel Blogs?
You can rest assured that everything on my website comes from my own personal experience (and pocket). This website is not made up of sponsored trips and paid content.
Authenticity and real information are very important to me.
I have free & low cost camped, budget travelled, said ‘no’ to some things because they were too expensive and even worked along the way to keep the dream alive. I’ve travelled just like you, because I’m also a traveller who just wants to live simply and explore the country.
You will only see companies on this website that I’ve actually used and recommend myself (not brands that have paid for a slot). If I haven’t used it myself in my everyday travels, you won’t find it here!
My goal is to share with you what life’s really like on the road!
Feel free to have a wander around the website and check out all of the information I have to share with you.

What Others Are Saying About MY RIG Adventures
“My Rig is my hero! Their site has everything you need to know about planning a lap. Make use of their budget breakdowns, guides, itineraries, camp catalogues, travel resources and destination tips. Importantly, Emma is a huge advocate for living on the road with less and travelling on a budget.
Em is a master at ordering information and a damn good writer too. She creates really detailed blog posts and compresses her content in a way that is easy to digest. I love her hacks for saving money and their free camp reviews.” – Emily at Websites From A Van

The wealth of info that you put on your site has been invaluable, so thanks again. Safe travels and if I catch up to you on the road sometime, I’ll happily buy you a drink and have a yarn!

There’s still plenty more to read and plan, but from what I’ve seen so far, this has been the most comprehensive out of all the blogs/ websites I’ve been following.
