Best Camping Apps Australia – FUEL & GAS

Fuel Map Australia

Fuel Map Australia

Fuel Map Australia is the best camping app in Australia for finding petrol stations, checking fuel prices and logging your own kilometres and fuel usage.

Information in the WikiCamps-created Fuel Map app is crowd-sourced, so when it comes to petrol stations and pricing use it as a guide only.

My favourite thing about the Fuel Map Australia app is being able to log your own fuel figures and have it automatically calculate your usage, costs and kilometres travelled. This is great if you want to collect data for each of your trips.

Fuel Map Australia

  • Find petrol stations on the map
  • View last known fuel prices

Gas Finder

Gas Finder (Refills & Swaps) App

The Gas Finder app is another very handy creation by WikiCamps. It’s one of the best camping apps in Australia for sourcing out gas bottle swaps and refills.

Again, all of the information in Gas Finder is crowd-sourced, so take it as a guide only. However, I’ve always found the pricing to be fairly up-to-date, even in the middle of the outback.

If you do come across some out-of-date information, it’s always helpful for the next person if you spend 30 seconds updating it yourself.

Best Camping Apps Australia – SAFETY

Be taken through the steps of what to do in the event of being stung or bitten by a venomous snake, spider, jellyfish or other aquatic creature. Apply the first aid and summon help with the Emergency Services Button in the app.

Snake Bite Bandages:

Anyone who’s camping in Australia should always carry at least two Snake Bite Pressure Immobilisation Bandages.

They are designed so that as you’re wrapping the bitten limb, you pull the bandage tight enough for the little rectangles to turn into squares.

Two bandages are generally enough to wrap an adult limb, but obviously having a few spares is a good idea.

Fires & Hazards Near Me

Hazards Near Me NSW

Fires Near Me and Hazards Near Me are the best apps for camping in Australia to avoid getting stuck in the middle of a bushfire or natural disaster. In fact, they could very well be a life-saving resource when camping in any bush-surrounded area.

I used the Hazards Near Me NSW app (formerly Fires Near Me) daily during our travels throughout the 2020 bushfires in New South Wales.

There are different versions for each state, so make sure you download the right one depending on where you’ll be camping.

In each app, you can set a locational distance around you (e.g. 20km radius). Then alerts will pop up if a fire is detected in your area. It could be anything from a grass fire to a bush fire. You can also receive warning and incident information, related to local fires.
