Near the little town of Japoonvale in the hinterland between Mission Beach and Innisfail is a beautiful little Rest Area (free camping). Japoonvale Rest Area is in the most gorgeous setting, with shady trees along the crystal clear Liverpool Creek.
People were swimming, but we weren’t sure if there were crocs about, so we didn’t go in. According to WikiCamps, crocodiles now inhabit these areas, so it’s advised to not swim or let dogs go near the water’s edge.
Mountain views, glorious sunsets and quiet afternoons.

Things To Do In Far North QLD
Paronella Park is a beautiful castle in the rainforest, which is only about 10km up the road. It has even been nominated as Queensland #1 Tourist Attraction and rightfully so. With a great dream and a love story attached to the history, Paronella Park had been on our bucket list for some time. Between the Day Tour, Night Tour, Lights Show and FREE Camping onsite, it was great value for money.
