If you’re looking for a camping ground to base yourself in the Atherton Tablelands, Ringers Rest Mareeba is perfect. The location makes it easy to explore the Tablelands, Kuranda and surrounds.
Some people even park their vans at Ringers Rest while heading up to Cape York, as it’s convenient and affordable ($10 per van, per night).

Ringers Rest Mareeba
We had the best week hanging out at Ringers Rest camping with some fellow travellers that we met back in The Gemfields, plus made some great new friends.
The kids had an absolute ball being completely free to roam and play, even creating a clubhouse in the old Landcruiser, collecting donations for a bike show and putting on some markets.
Dave the owner of the property couldn’t be more welcoming. If you have the chance, sit by the fire with him and have a yarn. With a very interesting past driving livestock and living off the land – he’s full of tales! The caretakers were also lovely.
Each morning you’ll wake up to the sounds of Hot Air Balloons landing. If you’re camped out in the paddock then they will literally be landing around you. So cool!
It was a bit sad to wave off our friends one by one, so I guess it’s time for us to move on too.
